Do you sometimes feel that no matter what hairdresser you choose you never seem to find a style that you are really comfortable with? The solution could well be that your choice of hairstyle does not ideally suit the shape of your face.
In our opinion the answer lies in identifying what your face shape actually is. Armed with this information it should be easier to choose a hairstyle that compliments your features. We hope the guide below helps you decide what styles should suit you best.
Round shaped face:
Should you consider yourself in this category then our focus is on a style that will help to make the face appear slimmer. This can be achieved by opting for a style that is thinner on the sides but more fuller on top of the head.
Full fringes and center partings will not compliment your features. If you are used to having a parting then ensure it is off center to help break up the roundness. Should you prefer a short look then avoid a slicked back look or curls, choose a style with waves or with soft movement.
Oval shaped face:
Is this you? Then you are one of the lucky ones amongst us who can pretty much choose any hairstyle you wish. Because the shape of your face is considered evenly proportioned then you can opt for a long, medium or short style with the confidence it should suit your face shape.
The only cautionary note I would give would to ensure you do not opt for a hairstyle where your hair covers your face as this could give the appearance of adding weight to your features. Have fun though with your choices as you have the ideal face to experiment with your hairstyles.
Heart shaped face:
For those of you whose face appears wider at the forehead tapering down to a small chin. Try not to choose a hairstyle that adds height or body to the top of your head. This will ensure your chin does not appear smaller than it is.
We really want to make the chin line look more full. We can do this by opting for a wavy, shaggier or curlier style which would suit the shape of your face more easily.
Square shaped face:
With a strong jaw line typically, what is needed is a style that softens the look. This can often be accomplished by opting for a drawn back look where the shape of the cheekbones are accentuated. Incorporating waves, curls or layer can also help in these circumstances.
Long / Thin faced shape:
Something like a bob cut is an ideal choice for this type of face as the main aim is to avoid wearing hair straight down. You are looking for a hairstyle that adds volume to the sides of your head giving the impression of more width.
Discuss with your hairdresser your new found knowledge on face shapes and what styles they think will compliment you most. I am sure you will be delighted with the results.
