TFT LCD monitors are a type of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display, Liquid Crystal Display) technology using TFT (Thin Film Transistor, thin film transistor) for controlling pixels . Both computer screens and on TV, TFT monitors have replaced CRT screens of cathode ray tubes because of their small thickness,
weight and volume, high resolution and low power consumption, especially with LED backlight.
Features
Currently, TFT LCD monitor stands, although strictly speaking a TFT is a type of active matrix LCD monitor.
LCD screens can use two technologies to control pixels, passive matrix structure (STN, DSTN, CSTN), which provides slow response times and poor contrast and small screens as used in digital watches, calculators or laptops monochrome screens , and structure of active matrix (TFT) used in color devices that require larger high resolution, fast response times and greater brightness, such as computer monitors and LCD TVs.
There are several types of TFT monitors as the technology used, such as TN, IPS, AFFS, MVA, PVA and ASV, obtained with each TFT monitors very different characteristics in terms of response time, viewing angle, quality of image contrast, brightness, depth of black or color range.
Backlight Technology
The screen TFT LCD monitors need backlighting to illuminate the pixels from the back, there are basically two technologies:
Backlight CCFL used in LCD monitors and uses conventional cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL), which provide a relatively low contrast and somewhat irregular white illumination.
LED backlight: used in LED displays and organic light emitting diodes used, obtaining a saturated contrast, deep blacks, high resolution and a more uniform illumination and more accurate than CCFL.
Advantages
Here are the main advantages of TFT monitors:
Small thickness and volume.
Reduced weight.
Low power consumption, especially with LED backlight.
High resolution.
TFT monitors are less harmful to the hearing by its high refresh rate.
